Neighborhood
William Waye is located just outside the center of Whitman, directly off of Route 27. The property is easily accessible to Route 18 and Route 123. Public transportation is accessible via Whitman’s MBTA commuter rail stop, which is less than three miles away, providing a 30-minute ride to South Station.
Whitman has a rich history in the shoemaking industry, where at one time there were over 20 shoe factories in town. Today, most of those factories have been turned into modern condominiums. Whitman is also known for their famous invention, the chocolate chip cookie, where Ruth Graves Wakefield invented the cookie at the Toll House Inn on Bedford Street in the late 1930’s. Unfortunately, the Inn burned down completely on New Year’s Eve in 1984 and has not been rebuilt since, but the Toll House sign remains.
